DOUGLAS J SMITH--A  PROFESSIONAL BIOGRAPHY

Doug provides his clients with financial planning, investments and insurance.  He holds both the NASD General Securities License (Series 7) and an Insurance License for Life, Accident, Health, Fixed and Variable Annuities.  He works in consultation with J. Andre Weisbrod, President of STAAR Financial Advisors, Inc., in Pittsburgh, and Fund Manager of the STAAR Investment Trust family of mutual funds.  His broker/dealer, Olde Economie Financial Consultants, Ltd. of Baden, supervises his investment activities.  He is a member of the Financial Planning Association and the Pittsburgh-based Financial Resources Group, an alliance of independent financial professionals, offering--both directly and through strategic alliances--a full range of professional financial services for clients' personal, business and organizational needs.

From 1995 to 1999, Doug worked in financial services at the progressive Seven Seventeen Credit Union (Ohio's third largest credit union) based in Warren, Ohio. Here he gained valuable lending and basic investment experience, including IRAs.  While still at SSCU, he earned his securities and insurance licenses on his own time and began offering his services part-time in the fall of 1998 to non-SSCU members living in Pennsylvania.  He opened his office full-time when he moved to Pittsburgh in July of 1999.  In June of 2001, he enrolled in the Denver-based College for Financial Planning to work toward the Certified Financial Planner designation.  He is privileged to serve a growing loyal base of individuals clients--from engineers and attorneys to small business owners, laborers and farmers--as well as an increasing number of non-profit organizations.  Business clients have also greatly benefited from his broad range of services and experienced associates.

Doug previously served as an ordained minister in the Orthodox Presbyterian Church after earning a Bachelors and a Masters degree from Grove City College and Westminster Theological Seminary in Philadelphia, respectively.  His church involvement continues with active membership as a deacon in Grace Orthodox Presbyterian Church in Sewickley, Pennsylvania, as well as serving as Secretary of the Committee for the Historian at the national level.  He also supports Robinson Township Christian School on their Finance Committee, as a member of their corporation and as a parent.

Doug and his wife, Shirley, are enjoying raising their four children--ages six, four, two and six-months--in Pittsburgh's Ingram Borough.
